Good morning! How is everyone in the limo this today? Ready for the work week? Eric has been keeping me VERY busy lately and I haven’t had a chance to snoop in his portfolio as much as I’d like. I thought that we could take another peek before the official filming of Cosmopolis starts. Are you game?
Today we’re taking a look at one of Eric’s favorite muses, Brutha Fez. We first met Brutha Fez when Eric was discussing money and his two elevators with Didi.
“I have two private elevators now One is programmed to play Satie’s piano pieces and to move at one-quarter normal speed. This is right for Satie and this is the elevator I take when I’m
in a certain, let’s say, unsettled mood. Calms me, makes me whole.”
“Who’s the other elevator?”
“The Sufi rap star. You don’t know this?”
Apparently you’re supposed to know who he is. Says Eric. I took a moment to visualize an album cover of the late Sufi rap star.
We’ll call this his “self-titled” album. I had a lot of fun with color, typography and styling and am having a grand time imagining this on Eric’s CD rack.
The next time we talk about Brotha Fez in detail is when Eric happens upon his funeral procession and runs into an old friend, Kozmo Thomas.
They did the handclasp and half hug.
“Why are we here?”
“You ain’t heard?”
Eric said, “What?”
Kozmo batted himself in the chest, reverently. “Brutha Fez.” “What?”
“No. What. Can’t be.”
“Dead. Died. Early today.”
“I don’t know this?”
Kozmo managed Brutha Fez and used to own a stable of race horses with our Mr. Packer. I really enjoyed meeting Kozmo in the book and I hope that he has a decent part in the film. To fit into the theme of this Packer Portfolio, I made him a business card.
Finally, with such a large-scale funeral procession, I imagined that there would be flyers for the occasion all over the city. Brutha Fez was a much loved contributor to the musical field and his religion. I wanted to play around with what this flyer could look like.
So what do you think? Are you running out to buy one of his CD’s? How did you picture when you thought about Brutha Fez in the book? I immediately thought about Cee Lo Green *coughs* as you can see *coughs.* Would you stable your race horse with Eric and Kozmo? I would.
Until next time, keep your eyes peeled in case we see our favorite suited character strutting around Toronto barking orders at his body guard. We’ll be ready in the limo!
