Robert Pattinson as Eric Packer a 28 year old multi-billionaire asset manager who makes an odyssey across midtown Manhattan in order to get a haircut.

Sarah Gadon as Elise Shifrin, Eric’s new wife, yet almost a stranger. She is an heiress and a poet. Chance meetings with Elise punctuate Eric’s strange day.

Juliette Binoche as Didi Fancher, an art dealer with whom Eric has an affair.

Paul Giamatti as Benno Levin/Richard Sheets, quite possibly an insane man who holds a complicated grudge against Eric.

Samantha Morton as Vija Kinski, Eric’s chief of theory.

Jay Baruchel as Shiner

Mathieu Amalric as Andre Petrescu aka The Pastry Assassin, a man who stalks prominent figures of politics, entertainment and, in Eric’s case, finance “to sabotage power and wealth”. His weapon of choice? Pies. “I glop you good.”

Emily Hampshire as Jane Melman

Kevin Durand as Torval

Patricia McKenzie as Kendra Hayes

Having now read the book and seeing the cast laid out like this, I’m so intrigued! I was wondering what role Paul Giamatti would play.

I am very excited about this project for Robert, and it sounds like he is too…
Thank you so much to Mr. Cronenberg for giving him the vote of confidence, and a chance, I feel, for Robert to shed off Twilight and the image of Edward…He is a better actor than that Saga gave him the chance to be, though I am, as I know he is, appreciative that he had such a big opportunity…I’m just so happy it has lead to “real” opportunities to show his talent, with such with a wonderful director as David, and a script that depends on the director and the main actor mainly…When I read about the movie, I thought about “Phonebooth”, and how well colin pulled that basically one man show off. So I can understand you having cast him in the first place. He is a great actor, but I probably would not have seen the movie…He is just not a person I wanted to continue to follow. I just got tired of his “persona” and every second word being, ****…With Robert, I will happily see this movie, because I know he can pull off a colin, no, he’ll pull off a true hard-working Robert, and you will NOT be sorry…Something Robert has, that I feel colin lacks, is personal depth, thanks impart to Robert’s passionate musical self, and the beautiful person he is inside and out!!! carolyn, an older Robert fan

LOVED Your comment!! I agree 100% with it all and am confident that with Water for Elephants and then this (Cosmopolis), the world will get to really see the talent that is Robert Pattinson!

  7. Kim says:

I’m so excited for Rob Pattinson to get this part and to be here at this blog to follow the book and movie!
The complexity of the book should make for a super role and movie. Also sounds like loads of fun, something different at every turn.

  8. Boo says:

Who is the third actress they have signed up? She looks young and I wonder which part she will play.
Yes, I too am looking forward to life after Twilight Rob has so much to offer.

  9. bren says:

I hope to see a lot of sarah gadon with rob, not just brief glimpses. they look fantastic together. also the wonderful juliette binoche.

  10. D.Hart says:

Nice to finally see intellegent people discussing this interesting guy (Pattinson).
It seems WE are as ready as he is to see him move out of the Cullen pigeon-hole and lose (I hope for his sake) some of the teen fan base.
So glad to know Summit is not involved! Maybe now he can really show us his stuff (acting, people) although I wouldn’t mind seeing his other stuff as well.

  11. BeerPattzRansomSpunk says:

WOWWW!! can’t wait to see it. :’) RPATTZ ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Bettybmusing says:

A fantastic cast this movie is going to be in one word ” WOW “

  13. Dee says:

Rob will be great in Cosmopolis. He is dedicated to the character he plays. There is something unique about this young actor, his humility and young innocence people gravitate toward…..

  14. Rory says:

I look forward to seeing Rob in the role of Eric Packer, he will be brilliant I’m sure. I loved him in Remember Me and WFE and can’t wait to see Bel Ami in which he will surely show some of the personality traits of Eric as well, seeing as though both men are pretty arragant and ruthless. Rob is going to be so yummy it both of these. Like many of you have mentioned it will be great to have Rob showcase his tallent outside the Twilight franchise if only to prove to the world that he can play other roles, but I am an “older” fan of his work in these movies as well and feel he showed a great deal of depth as Edward Cullen, and took that role very seriously, showing us a multi-fasceted character portrayal. Rob is a young man who is hard working, and anything but shallow and seems to put his mind, his creativity and his heart into every role he plays. I hope to watch him in movies for many years to come. I am so loving everything I have seen from this movie and the casting especially under David Cronenburg’s direction is going to be a force to be reckoned with.

    • Jolene says:

Agree with you, Rory. I’ve seen almost all of Rob’s movies, the early British ones included, and I think he is a remarkable actor; in even the not-so-good movies his talent stood out. Really looking forward to this movie.

  15. insat says:

Thank you, Mr. Cronenberg, for helping Patzy to free from the lunatic part of Edward’s (yes, not Rob’s) teen fan base. I’ve seen all of Pattinson’s movies and it is obvious that even if he doesn’t say it himself, (though he admits that his career is where it is thanks to Twilight) he wants to get out of it (and it can be a very difficult thing to achieve). He has a lot of potential and I think so far he has made very good decisions to evolve in his career. I think Bel Ami and Cosmopolis will finally help him, even if they do not make a lot of money. Well, it’s the quality that matters, not box office results.

  16. It’s in reality a great and helpful piece of information. I’m glad that you shared this useful info with us. Please keep us informed like this. Thanks for sharing.

  18. Prottusha says:

Loved Cosmopolis. Probably the only film I’ve seen that makes any sense at this point of time in the world, in whatever overarching manner.
