Another roundup of Cosmopolis mentions in 2012 lists.

145 Most Anticipated Films of 2012 – The Film Stage

20. Cosmopolis (David Cronenberg; TBA)

Synopsis: Follows a multimillionaire on a 24-hour odyssey across Manhattan.

Why You Should Look Forward To It: Although the films he has made in the 21st Century are not quite as wildly eccentric as his earlier ones were, David Cronenberg still inserts a sense that nothing is at it seems and brings the twists and turns along the way that make his work so intense and intriguing. With Cosmopolis, the opportunity for paranoia is too good to pass up. His decision to make Robert Pattinson the star bewildered some, but I have faith in his decisions. Expect the unexpected. – Jack C.

15- Cosmopolis

While P.T. Anderson may be my favourite American filmmaker working today, David Cronenberg is not only my favourite Canadian filmmaker, but is somewhere on my list of my ten favourite directors of all time. The man has only made one film that I did not like (guess which one) and I’d easily place about five of his films on my top 100. Here Cronenberg adapts a critically revered and best-selling novel and places teen heartthrob Robert Pattinson at the centre, as a newlywed billionaire who ends up losing his bride and his billions in a single day. A bunch of Cronenberg’s favourite themes are explored, including man’s relationship with modern technology, murder and yes, sexual obsession. Apart from Pattinson, the impressive cast includes Sarah Gadon, Kevin Durand, Jay Baruchel, Samantha Morton, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, and Mathieu Amalric.

Synopsis: Based on the novel by American author Don DeLillo, it centers on Eric Packer (Robert Pattinson), a young multi-billionaire making an epic, ultimately doomed limo ride across New York City.

Top 40 Most Anticipated Films of 2012 – Ropes of Silicon:

The only reason Cosmopolis makes my list is because it’s a David Cronenberg feature. Plain and simple.

Based on the novel by Don DeLillo, the film follows newly married billionaire Eric Packer (Robert Pattinson) as he cheats on his wife (Sarah Gadon), is pursued by a stalker (Paul Giamatti), gets attacked by a protester and gradually loses his entire fortune over the course of a single day.

Okay, let’s say Cronenberg is the main reason instead as the story sounds pretty cool too and the cast, which also includes, Juliette Binoche, Mathieu Amalric, Samantha Morton, Jay Baruchel, Kevin Durand and Emily Hampshire, ain’t too bad either.

The jist  Adapted from Don DeLillo’s novel, Cosmopolis is a day in the life of a 28-year-old multi-millionaire, played by Robert Pattinson, as he crosses Manhattan in his limousine. It also stars Jay Baruchel, Juliette Binoche and Paul Giamatti.

The buzz  “A friend of mine, Sarah Gadon, is in it so it’s a double Canadian whammy. I love to watch Sarah’s work. I love to watch Cronenberg’s brain candy.” — Tattiawna Jones, actress

No.3 Cosmopolis

Author Don DeLillo has his finger on the pulse of contemporary society and modern masculinity. If you haven’t read White Noise, make that your new objective. Yet no one has ever attempted a movie on the cynical, postmodern novelist’s work — until now. David Cronenberg adapts DeLillo’s Cosmopolis, a Ulysses-esque journey in which a young stock-market millionaire (Twilight’s Robert Pattison) crosses Manhattan in a bulletproof limo to get a haircut on a bizarre day filled with lunatics, oversexed women and financial woes. This one’s sure to be a dystopian classic for the recession era.

Let’s Take a Ride: Cosmopolis

Story: Taking place over 24 hours in Manhattan, Cosmopolis examines the heart and soul of the West through the story of a 28-year-old stock market millionaire (played by Robert Pattinson) who takes a drive across town in his limo to get a haircut.

Why it could be cool: The movie is being directed by the always-surprising-us David Cronenberg (Eastern Promises) and based on a novel by Don DeLillo. So if “movie about a car ride” doesn’t sound exciting just yet, consider the sources. If nothing else, it should be visually stunning and rife with compelling dialog. The film is also being scored by Howard Shore, the Oscar-winning composer behind the Lord of the Rings films.

Cautionary note: Very little is known about this adaptation yet, so even though its creators are brilliant it’s hard to anticipate exactly what they’ll create, or how enthralling it might be. —Angela Watercutter

“Apart from Pattinson, the impressive cast includes Sarah Gadon, Kevin Durand, Jay Baruchel, Samantha Morton, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, and Mathieu Amalric.” I’m a bit confused about this sentence….does the writer of this mean he/she DOESN’T think ROB is impressive (“apart from” as in…except for) or that IN ADDITION to Rob, there other impressive cast members are…? Unfortunately, I think it’s the first…because of the referral of Rob as a “teen heartthrob”. God…I can’t WAIT for Rob’s performance to silence these people who think that that’s ALL he is…and I have no doubt that it will.

*the other (not there) and *to Rob (not of)

i was confused too but then took it as an insult. apart…separated from…

whatever. it’s nothing new. critics are narrow-minded re: Rob and its easier for them to ridicule him. toss him off as a pretty face for “teens”.

it won’t be the last insult we see. i included it in this roundup because the insult wasn’t awful and he noted that the cast is impressive. just failed to see that Rob is also impressive.

the media seriously needs to STOPPIT with the “teen heartthrob” description…it’s pissing me off.

    • Syl says:

me too. most ‘teens’ don’t even like him.^^ it’s so ridiculous. -.-
but i have the fear as long as there’s still another twilight movie we have to life with it.
